چکیده

This paper presents a new model to coordinate the movements of a large number of autonomous agents in a ubiquitous computing scenario. This model is based on the concept of computational fields (Co-Fields): distributed data structures providing agents with a perception of the environment in terms of abstract force fields. Fields are dynamically constructed by the components of an embedded infrastructure (or by a software substrate of the agents themselves). Agents, by sensing the gradient of these fields and acting accordingly, can achieve very complex coordination task in a context-aware fashion. The Co-Fields model is described, simulated, and evaluated in the context of a case study in the area of mobile tourist assistance.

Field-based Approaches to Adaptive Motion Coordination in Pervasive Computing Scenarios

Enabling and ruling coordination activities in mobile computing scenarios challenge traditional approaches to distributed application development and software engineering. This chapter focuses on D istributed Motion Coordination, i.e., the problems of coordinating the movements of a group of ”agents” (e.g., mobile devices, users carrying on those devices, mobile robots and sensors) and focuses ...

Location-Mediated Service Coordination in Ubiquitous Computing

We propose location-mediated service coordination in ubiquitous computing. In the coordination, middle agents determine bestmatched services for a user by considering the user’s location based on location-ontology for ubiquitous computing. Introducing such location-aware middle agents and location-ontology into ubiquitous computing, we can extend application areas of software agents from the In...

A context-sensitive infrastructure for coordinating agents in ubiquitous environments

The combination of contextual information about the real world (e.g., collected by sensors) with information coming from the virtual world (e.g., the Web 2.0), may represent an enormous enrichment particularly for services organized and provided by agents in ubiquitous environments. To address the challenging need for coordination in such environments, and to provide the user a high-level of se...

Swarm Dynamics Behavior Analysis and Coordinated Control of Limited-Range Perceived Agents

Swarming behavior is ubiquitous in nature and society. It is of both theoretical and practical importance to investigate the underlying principles and mechanisms of coordination and cooperation emerging in swarms. In this paper we propose a simple isotropic range limited-perceive agents dynamic model to study collective and formation behavior of a group of mobile autonomous agents interacting t...

Norm-Aware Agents for Ad Hoc Networks: A Position Paper

A norm-governed, agent-based approach is proposed as a key technology for operating Ad Hoc networks, both as the logical platform for ubiquitous computing applications and as the physical platform for ubiquitous computing environments. Of the many issues raised by such a proposal, three are: what kind of cognitive capability the agents require, what kind of social and regulatory organisation is...
